How to Merge Multiple Attributes in Custom Export

This guide explains how to combine multiple attribute values into a single cell during a custom export in Trustana.

Updated over a week ago

šŸ“Œ Why This Matters

  • Reduces column clutter in the export file

  • Helpful for marketplaces and platforms that require condensed descriptions

šŸ“Œ Example Use Case

Let’s say you have different titles configured for various product categories—like Apparel Title, Beauty Title, or Electronics Title.

Instead of exporting them as separate columns, you can merge them into one column (e.g., Category Title) using the custom export feature. During export, the system will smartly pick the relevant title for each product and place it under a single header in the output file.

āœ… This makes the export cleaner, easier to upload elsewhere (e.g., marketplaces), and avoids empty or redundant columns.

Note:
You can also use the ā€œMerge Multipleā€ feature in your existing export templates.

If you've already created a template:

  • Go to your Custom Export Template list

  • Click on the ā€œEditā€ option next to the template you want to update

  • Once inside, navigate to the ā€œMappingā€ section

  • From there, you can follow Step 4 onwards in this document to set up merged attributes.

Step 1: Navigate to Custom Templates

From the left-hand menu, click on "Custom Template" under the Export section.

Step 2: Click on "Create Export"

Once you're on the Custom Template page, go to the top-right corner and click on the ā€œCreate Exportā€

Step 3: Fill in Configuration Details

In the Configuration section, enter the following:

  • Template Name – Give your export a clear, descriptive name.

  • Description – (Optional) Add notes for internal reference.

  • File Extension – Choose .csv, .xls, or the format you need.

Step 4: Click on the ā€œMappingā€ Section

After entering all configuration details, scroll down and click on the ā€œMappingā€ header to start defining which attributes should appear in your export file.
This is where you’ll configure the merging of multiple attributes into a single column.

Step 5: Configure the "Merge Multiple" Option in "Mapping"

Once inside the Mapping tab:

  1. From the Trustana Attributes dropdown, select Merge Multiple.

  2. In the Attributes to group field, choose the attributes you want to combine. You can select up to 25 attributes.

  3. From the Delimiter (split by) dropdown, select how you want to separate values. You can choose options like:

    • Comma ,

    • Vertical bar |

  4. For Output only values choose Yes or No

  5. In the Export Header column, type the name you want to give this merged column in the exported file.

Step 6: Finalize and Create

Once you’ve completed the configuration and mapping:

  • Scroll to the bottom right of the page

  • Click on the ā€œCreateā€ button to save and generate your custom export template

Note:
You can also use the ā€œMerge Multipleā€ feature in your existing export templates.
